The Hazelhurst Trust was one of the founding donors that helped to establish the Community Foundation for Surrey and continues to operate a fund to support a range of local causes. The Trustees have a preference for supporting specific projects where communities seek to address their own issues and where a direct outcome can be seen. Projects that have been supported include Opportunities at Sandy Hill, Peer Productions, Liquid Connections, The Challice Fund for Haslemere, SMART (St. Mark’s Active Residents, Godalming), Disability Challengers, Haslemere Young Parents Group, CHASE Hospice and a wide range of other projects. In 2006, a number of local community projects were supported in Northumberland. A trustee of the Hazelhurst Trust, Matthew Bowcock, was Vice Chairman of the Community Foundation for Surrey and Chairman of the Community Foundation Network (now renamed UK Community Foundations).
